A common question we’re asked at SVP is “whose media should I buy?”. There isn’t a short answer to that, it depends upon a number of factors, but we often say you can’t go wrong by buying Verbatim CDR, DVDR or other media.

Verbatim have been a major player since the CDR market was young. As developments such as DVDR, dual (double) layer DVDR and Blu Ray have come along, there’s usually been a Verbatim disc available as one of the first of the format that you could buy. This means that manufacturers often cite Verbatim media as tested and compatible with their drives, since it was available, high-quality and dependable when the hardware was developed.

Verbatim take the longevity of their discs very seriously - and so do most people, when it comes down to it. If you’ve ever lost data, you’ll know what I mean! Anecdotal evidence from people who burned Verbatim CDR at the end of the last century will tell you that Verbatim media was a good choice - the discs still work fine. A look at the packaging on modern Verbatim CDR and DVDR will give you an insight into some of the strategies they use to make sure the repututation is maintained.

On top of longevity, compatibility is the other most important factor. The dye on the disc - in other words, the bit that holds the data - is key here. SVP’s experience of selling millions of Verbatim discs bears out the general opinion in the market that Verbatim dyes are among the most compatible. By ‘compatible’ we simply mean that a given disc will work in lots of different machines.

The SVP opinion is that Verbatim quality control also means their discs are consistently good.

So there you have it, a canned explanation of why SVP recommends Verbatim! See Verbatim products at SVP.
