Single Executable Firmware Upgrade: LG

LG  HL-DT-STDVDRAM GSA-4163B

Use the Firmware detect tool to determine the firmware of the drive

The firmware version of the drive in this example is currently A104 but we know that there is an upgrade available to A105.

The upgrade comes as GSA-4163A105(ew).zip archive and extracted we have the executable GSA4163A105.exe and a readme.txt file with the upgrade instrustions

Assuming you have taken all the precautions as outlined previously you are now ready to perform the upgrade

Before you start eject the drive tray and remove any disc that may be in it.

This firmware update is for use only on PCs with Windows XP, 2000, ME, or Windows 98.

Follow the instructions below for the update procedure:

Please Note: Warranty will be lost if using incorrect updating procedures, or if unofficial modified firmware is used.

  • Connect the drive as Master by itself, on the secondary IDE controller with no other device on the same IDE cable, making note to set the jumper on the back of the drive to the Master position. (For more information about IDE connections 'Guide to IDE Connections' available from the Index page.

  • Download the file GSA-4163A105(EW).ZIP to a folder of your choice. This download includes the Readme(ew).txt file, as well as the GSA4163A105.EXE program, which will auto-update your drive's firmware.

  • Close all other programs including: screen saver, antivirus and/or power-down programs. (If these programs are not closed, they will try to engage the PC, during the update process, thus interrupting the update and damaging the drive).

  • Go into the folder with the update file and double click the GSA4163A105.EXE program and click the update button (Fig.1)
