Use the Firmware detect tool
to determine the firmware of
the drive
The firmware version of the
drive in this example is currently
A104 but we know that
there is an upgrade available
to A105.
The upgrade comes as GSA-4163A105(ew).zip
archive and extracted we have
the executable GSA4163A105.exe
and a readme.txt file with
the upgrade instrustions
Assuming you have taken all
the precautions as outlined
previously you are now ready
to perform the upgrade
Before
you start eject the drive tray
and remove any disc that may
be in it.
This
firmware update is for use only
on PCs with Windows XP, 2000,
ME, or Windows 98.

Follow the
instructions below for the update
procedure:
Please
Note: Warranty will be lost if using
incorrect updating procedures, or
if unofficial modified firmware is
used.
- Connect the
drive as Master by itself, on the
secondary IDE controller with no
other device on the same IDE cable,
making note to set the jumper on
the back of the drive to the Master
position. (For more information
about IDE connections 'Guide
to IDE Connections' available
from the Index page.
- Download the
file GSA-4163A105(EW).ZIP to a folder
of your choice. This download includes
the Readme(ew).txt file, as well
as the GSA4163A105.EXE program,
which will auto-update your drive's
firmware.
- Close all other
programs including: screen saver,
antivirus and/or power-down programs.
(If these programs are not closed,
they will try to engage the PC,
during the update process, thus
interrupting the update and damaging
the drive).
- Go into the
folder with the update file and
double click the GSA4163A105.EXE
program and click the update button
(Fig.1)

- Update
will start (Fig.2)

- Update
is complete (Fig.3). You will see
Firmware Update Complete and the
button will become green and advise
you to reboot the system. You will
need to reboot your PC. The update
will be complete after you reboot
your system.

WARNINGS:-
-
Do
not open any programs or start
any system functions during the
update, as they will interfere
with data transfer and damage
the drive.

Do
not cancel the operation once
it has been started or the drive
will
become permanently damaged, as
a result.

It
is important to reboot the PC
immediately after a firmware upgrade
so that Windows can register the
drive correctly
