We always recommend that customers keep the firmware on their DVD writers up to date as a large number reported problems we receive are due to out of date firmware. Click here for our guide to firmware upgrading.

Different product..
The last batch that I bought were not the usual pale grey but a much darker disk similar to the Datawrite Titanium type. Quality was not quite up to the old Grey standard, with about 6 failed writes out of a tub of 100. Each failure was due to a small depression in the disk surface about 15-20% in from the centre. Each defect was in the same spot and caused a complete loss of track sync during writing. Of the ones that completed, all verified ok, and the dye seemed to be pretty good. My writer is an NEC3500 which has shown a high degree of compatibility with different media.

Not the real Datawrite grey, avoid at all cost
For more than 7 years I've been buying Datawrite grey dvd-r. Sometimes a batch would have some bad dye issue. But on the whole they were the most compatible and reliable dvd-r for the price. That was before Datawrite tried to kill the good reputation of the grey quality by selling the infamous CMC Magnetics dvd-r as real grey. As a result : 10 failed out of of 12 as I tried this horreful quality on a standalone Pionner dvd-recorder and a variety of Pc dvd burners. The only burner able to burn these is a brand new TSSCorp.
I recommend to avoid any dvd-r that could come from CMC magnetics, I will never buy again any Datawrite unless I am guaranted it is not a CMC dye.

Reliable and inexpensive
I'm nearly at the bottom of a box of 50 of these. I've used a variety of writers without encountering any problems.
They are quite a dark colour by the way, which may be a problem if you only have black marker pens!

Not Great
I can only use these discs if i lower the copying speed otherwise they dont work.
Told the complaints dept ,asked for a change of product all i got was a download telling me to install it and then tell them what burner im using . VERY POOR SVP . Let me guess what your gonna say MMMM its my burner!
***SVP Tech note*** Gary, we often need to know what writer and firmware a customer has as stage one of assisting them with a problem such as the one you are having. Please don't think that was the full extent of the assistance we were offering. Discs not burning at full speed is often the sign of a writers firmware not being up to date. The old firmware doesn't recognise the new dye type of the disc and so falls back to a slower default burning stratagy that doesn't do the disc or the writer justice.

No Problems
I've used a 100 or so of these on my NEC with no problems at all. They also seem to read OK on my standalone.

Best quality disk's I have ever used
I buy 6 boxes of these at a time (3,000) as I am a heavy user selling DVD's on numerous sites & can honestly say without doubt I keep coming back to these disks are they are simply the best. I burn using a Toshiba,NEC,Sony,TDK & Mashita DVD burners & would estimate that I get 1 coaster per 200 disks, compare this to some Bulkpaq disks that I tried from SVP a while back when I was getting 50-60 failures per 100.You won't regret buying these disks & I would rate them 10 out of 10.

good quality if your burner firmware supports them
i use these for backing up various bits and bobs, they burn fine in my benq 1620 but not well in my pioneer. still at the price they are a good buy and will continue to buy them as long as my benq keeps going.

Strange with a Pioneer 110
Tried some of these with my Pioneer 110, (WITH LATEST FIRMWARE).
They burnt fine, but I could not verify after burning using Nero 6.6.1.4
Comes up as invalid media ???
Tried some with an NEC 3540 and burnt and verified fine.
Very Strange !!
But all discs played fine on stand alone DVD players.

Extremely poor quality
Maybe I just was unlucky and got part of a bad batch, but I bought 300 of these 8x Datawrite greys, after the 4x Ricohcode reds were no longer available (not one failure in 700 discs burnt). Found many discs failed, and could see various physical defects on the write surface ('watermarking', uneven dye, all sorts). Some discs that looked fine still failed for no discernible reason. Had to be burned at 4x - trying faster was a guaranteed fail, even using the latest firmware for my writer, which has never problems with any other type of disc.
I've been buying discs from SVP for several years, first CDRs then DVDRs and these are easily the worst I've come across.
