These 16x DVD-R discs from Datawrite have a grey top surface branded with the Datawrite logo and a 4-lined area at the bottom to label the discs contents.
We always recommend that customers keep the firmware on their DVD writers up to date. This is especially true in the case of high-speed media as most reported problems are due to out of date firmware. Click here for our guide to firmware upgrading.

Quality has DEFINATELY gone down lately...
Last batch I had, failure rate has dropped from ~1% to 20%. As I never really had coasters, I re-formmatted my machine and even bought a new burner (in case the laser was on it's way out) but still problems. Looking on back of discs shows litle problems like white 'flecks' towards the outer edge and non-crisp-clean lines where the dye ends. Suppose as price goes down, so does production quality :( Shall not be purchasing these again.

If you are using Mac Book Pro - Don't use these
I had used these frequently over the last year with about a 75% successful burn rate, but after the Apple firmware 2.1 and the change in design/dye? of the Datawrite DVD's I found I was gettting a 100% failure rate:-(. I can't be sure if this was due to the Discs, the update or just the DVD's burner pernickity nature. however the lovely people at SVP swapped my Discs for some Verbatim silver top x16 -R and not a single coaster so far! :-)

55% Fail Rate
Prodisc FO2 dye
6 out of 11 fails with a SATA Pioneer DVR-212 with the latest 1.22 firmware. Tried at 16x, 12x and 8x. Fails at each speed.
Switched to Verbatim 16x +R which actually burn at 18x and I've just had 8 successfull on the bounce.
Definitely steer clear of these.

Avoid MCC 03RG20 Dye
I used to swear by Datawrite Greys but out of the last batch I ordered 30 out of 100 failed. Avoid the MCC 03RG20 dye like the plague.

Problems with the last batch
This has been my disc of choice and I've probably burnt 1500 or more over the years but my last batch of 2x50 have been problematic. Of 29 burns (from both stacks) on two different PC's/writers, 11 have failed. They won't burn in my Smasung at all and in my Plextor the max speed is 6x and even then I've had failures.

First class but writer may need firmware update
Been using Grey 8x for a while, switched to 16x when the price came down and haven't been disappointed with either speed. The dye coating is clean and uniform, and burns at full speed verify easily, demonstrating high quality media.
A friend has an NEC2510 8x writer and required a firmware update to recognise the 16x version, but they burn fine at 8x after the update.

Excellent
I've used a few hundred of these disks and i've never had a bad one. I use a Philips DVDr1648P1 burner with firmware P2.2 and P2.4 mainly. Also a 100% record on my PC based NEC and Pioneer drives. Work well also on newer Apple Mac drives with recent firmware. Had trouble on older Apple Mac drives, but that is to be expected. A recommended purchase for newer drives. It helps if your favourite colour is grey, lol.

Much better
Had a couple of minor media not recignised burn problems, but that turned out to be dirt on the dye surface, other than that they burn great and play fine. Titaniums have seriously dropped in quality, but these are like titaniums used to be and the price is steadily dropping
