Truly excellent
I bought the 500GB version 12 months ago (I even received a small rebate from SVP, as the price dropped just after it arrived). Reformatted to NTFS for my Windows XP PC. It sits almost silently on a shelf, with a thin rubber mat underneath to eliminate the slight vibration from the drive, and has run totally reliably for 15 hours every day. Runs only slightly warm - nothing to worry about.

Outstanding
Sleek but tough. Attractive brushed aluminium case which doubles as the perfect heatsink (meaning no fan). Factory formatted as FAT32 for maximum compatability, but you can easily reformat as NTFS if you'll be using it exclusively with Windows machines. I bought the 500GB model, it was great value and is in perfect shape 6 months into its life. I'll need a new one soon, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy the very same drive again. Can't speak any more highly of it than that.

Top notch
They need drivers? Hmmmm not plugged into my windows box yet, but in Linux they are a perfectly normal USB mass storage device and totally plug and play. Excellent drives, don't seem to mind being used as either full time or temporary devices. I keep one in my laptop bag full of entertaining things to watch. Just about to buy my 3rd one actually. The only negative thing I would say is that you should avoid them if you are nervous. They periodically make deep clicking sounds that sound FAR too much like the "click of death" for comfort, yet not actual ill effects are evident. Otherwise their operation is pretty well silent and temps are quite well controlled. They also stack very nicely.

May need to update software
I dont really have a review I just wanted to give the page for a software update that I needed as the software that came with the disc was out of date. The software told me "no freecom device found" but it seems fine now that I have updated to the software here http://www.freecom.com/ecNewsitem.asp?ID=5235

Simply Stunning....
yes, the plastic case does get warm, but not hot... no matter how long it's on for. Quiet? more like silent. Access fast enough for me to stream movies and music to various locations around the house without any stress whatsoever. I don't think I can add any more to this review. I've had my 500GB drive for two weeks now and it does EXACTLY what SVP said on the tin... although it's nearly full already. guess I'll have to get another soon :-) The only thing missing is a LAN connection, but hey, nothing's perfect in this life. All in all, money well spent. My advice - get one while you can.

Usual excellent service
I bought a 250GB Freecom external hard drive just before HD prices started dropping, but even so from SVP, it was still a bargain . My only regret is that I didn't buy the 500GB version. So when this one is full I shall be back for a bigger one.

Good Choice
Usual excellent service and delivery from SVP. Ordered the 500gb version on Friday evening and arrived Monday morning. Plugged it in, formatted to NTFS and then partitioned it. Moved all my old stuff from a 120gb external drive (5 year old, starting to get errors) onto this and still got oodles of space free. Was a bit warm when I finished copying but didn't seem to matter. At this price it's a steal.

Freecom 500gb Hard Drive
I ordered up one of these because I needed extra storage space and I couldn't be happier with it. The price was excellent, made all the better by the Â£10 off 'Google Checkout' offer and delivery was, as ever, much faster than they lead you to believe! The unit was simplicity to install and convert to NTFS - taking only moments. Highly recommended piece of kit and buying from SVP means that you know you are going to be looked after both in price and customer service.
