In-Car 12v MP3 FM Modulator (with Position Memory)
Click thumbnails below...
These in-car FM modulators have been a huge hit with SVP customers. Play all your audio devices wirelessly through your car stereo system. Unlike the original machine, this second-generation version has position memory (so it resumes from the last track you heard) and a small remote control.
You can now enjoy your MP3 music collection without having to spend money to upgrade your car sound system. Play all your audio devices wirelessly through your existing radio.
This device uses FM radio to broadcast the MP3 files from any attached USB device (pen drive, MP3 player, USB hard drive etc.) to a preselected radio channel on your car FM radio. Simply plug into the cigarette lighter outlet, insert your USB drive, press play, and your MP3s start playing. The FM frequency is adjustable so you can select the clearest frequency between 87.7 and 88.9 MHz or 106.7 and 107.9 MHz - the small display on the device shows your selection.
This latest version now includes onboard position memory. Never again forget or have to search for the track you last played, this unit will automatically remember and start next time at the beginning of that track. Also includes a small remote control to allow ease of use whether sitting in the front or back of the vehicle.
You can also use the included audio lead to connect to the headphone socket of any other device (e.g. an iPod, portable DVD player etc.) to allow you to play it through the car radio in just the same way.
These devices, formerly illegal to use in the UK, are now permitted due to Ofcom's amendment to the Wireless Telegraphy Act on 8th December 2006.
Features: - Compatible with MP3 players, CD players, DVD players and laptops - 14 LED preset indicators for FM frequencies - Standard USB port - Play, pause, volume and track selection controls - 3.5mm stereo input
Package Contents: - MP3 FM modulator - Remote control - Audio cable

Fantastic!
I was a bit dubious about buying this... I had bought another FM transmitter from another website, which was terrible! It hissed and I could barely hear the music.
But, I'm glad I did buy this! I plugged it in, tuned down a few stations-and I hear my music in full glorious sound! :D I changed the EQ setting which added a little something. I like it! It hisses when I go to change gear, but if I move it around a bit so my hand doesn't cause interference it's fine. :)
I bought a very cheap USB memory stick from here at the same time-put a random few tracks on it to test-now I know it works, I am going to spend the weekend picking out my favourite tunes to drive to!
I also plugged my mp3 player into it, that works equally as well.
Great stuff!

Works perfectly
Have now bought two of these. Great reception - blocks out any sound on the frequencies I use (87.5 or 105.1 seem to work best). I use with either 1gb or 512mb SD card. Buttons large enough to advance tracks etc. Friend uses with IPod conection via cable. Sound very good. Far better than other units at double the price and more.

The best I have found so far
I bought one of these in Jan 08 and after 9 months have to say it is the best I have found.
I have no idea how good all those iPod only devices are, but for generic audio players connecting through a standard mini-jack, this is really great.
Of course, the audio quality is not going to be as good as a direct cable connection into a hifi unit, but for most purposes it is fine (it is in a car for heavens sake and unless your car is silent, the background noise easily outweighs any audio quality problems from this unit).
The FM channel selection is really superb - it remembers the last frequency selected even when unplugged, and the lock works well in my vehicle, rejecting other broadcast stations unless they are high power and local.
I don't use the USB connection, but when I tried it out, I did see it would have been a painful experience - poor navigation file to file and slow forward and rewind speeds (I won't even call it "fast" forward as this would be misleading!). I use this with my Sandisk Sansa and as long as the volume on the Sandisk is set at 80% or higher, the output on my car audio unit is just fine.
I never use the remote control - not a lot of point if I am not using the USB connection.
Now - a fly in this otherwise happy ointment - my unit has started malfunctioning - after 9 months this is not bad considering it is a low cost device, but I would rather not have to buy a new one. I have just emailed SVP to ask nicely for a replacement.
I confess, even if SVP refuse to replace my unit, I would buy another. I have tried other devices of a similar kind and none compare to the convenience and quality of this device.
My advice - if you want an FM modulator, BUY ONE OF THESE - it is the best one for non iPods I have found.

Nice gadget.
Mate has got mp3 player in car connected to his transmitter loads of cable everywhere. This little gadget saves all the hassle ,compact, easy to stow away, sound not brill ,but can be improved using the EQ button (does work ).As for the number of tracks that be played i am using micro cards in a micro flash reader. Each hold roughly 100 tracks (512)have got 3 in car.1 FOR KIDS ,1 FOR MISSES ,1 FOR ME.Tried using 1gb but got annoyed going through tracks.
All in all good buy cant wait for the updated version (hopefully).
Also would like to thank SVP on speedy delivery.Fisrt modulator was damaged on delivery sent email to SVP, replacement was sent out within 3 days .

Good, but not as good sound quality as the earlier unit.
I bought one of these to replace my original version, as the new one remembers your last track played and has a remote control.
Comparing the two, the new one is a much better unit from a practical point of view. The LCD display is a massive improvement over the original version's hard to read channel display, and the buttons are bigger and easier to push.
Sound wise though it's not as good as the earlier version. It's clear enough, but lacks 'punch', sounding slightly muffled compared to my old unit. It's like comparing a CD recording to a radio broadcast. I preferred the sound of the older one, so I kept it and passed this unit onto a friend who is delighted with it. If I hadn't heard the sound quality of the original version, I would have thought this one was perfectly acceptable. It's still excellent value for a tenner.

Good value and very easy to use
I have had two of these devices now, the first (without position memory) was great but a little inconvenient (especially if listening to an audio book or the like) then new one has the position memory but i dont think the audio quality is as good.
Ive tested it out with a few different systems (both and input and radio) ive found that the quality of the radio recieving the signal makes a huge difference so that might explain some of the problems other users are having.
The other thing is that when playing back from the memory stick the unit provides better quality from MP3 encoded tracks than it does with WMA tracks. In fact wma tracks are thin, hissy and lifeless. This does not mean they are unlistenable, but if your going to use it i recommend that your tracks are actual MP3 files for best quality.

Very Very Poor Sound Quality - DO NOT BUY
I asked my wife to buy me one of these for a Christmas present as my original device has a power lead that got in the way so I thought this device would be a good alternative - I've used it once but the sound quality is so poor I just cannot stand to listen to it!!!! The difference between my original device (another make from another company) is unbelievable, its like the difference between listening to an FM and a MW signal - the sound seems to echo and lacks any depth and seems very tinny. In addition the remote (seems to be different to that shown on the website) as buttons that the device seems to react to but no explanation of how to use them! For example there is an EQ button (which I thought might improve the sound quality) on pressing you get EQ on the display but thats it - no effect even when you press other buttons.
I really cannot understand how other people can give this device high marks!!!
*** SVP Note ***
This modulator may even be faulty. We may me able to take it back on that basis or under our no-quibble guarantee - please email for assistance.

Good but could be better
The wonder of being able to play MP3s directly from my 2GB pen drive is still working its charm after compromising for so long with burnt CDs and my car's built-in CD player.
You need a pen drive or an MP3 player with a 3.5mm headphone jack on it for the thing to work.
Luckily it does not get in the way of my VW Golf Mk 5's dashboard or gearstick. It's cheap, light, and it does its job without a fuss...
...sort of.
I live in Greater London where it is extremely difficult to ascertain an unused FM frequency; especially with the multitude of pirate radio stations blaring out mind-numbing drum 'n' bass everywhere. After a good 30 minutes of testing, I decided on using 87.7FM, which quite honestly at best sounds like you're listening to music from a telephone - much like being in a waiting queue for customer service. The device may perform better in rural areas but I cannot believe other Londoners can rate sound quality as 10/10. It is certainly not standard FM quality in the slightest so be warned.
It reeks of cheap chinese plastic construction.
And its rather phallic-looking shape may also put you off a tad.
Saying that, for £12.89 excl. delivery, this product is a bargain - it certainly saves me burning audio CDs and I can use it in any car I like :)

Very Nice
Sound quality is very good, easy to use and a bargain at under £13 :)
The only negative point I have is that the volume is a lot lower than either my cars CD or radio, set at max (18 on the display) it's about 1/2 as loud, car is an 06 Focus C-Max
