Pioneer BDC-202 DVD Writer / Blu-Ray Reader Drive

These Pioneer drives offer playback of BD-ROM discs allowing users to view Blu-ray Disc high definition programs directly on a properly configured computer. The Pioneer BDC-202 can play multiple Blu-ray Disc formats, as well as provide high-speed reading and writing of DVD and CD formats.

With a focus on BD-ROM playback, the new Pioneer combination drive will be a significant contributor in the emergence of the Blu-ray Disc format for both professional and consumer use on computers. In addition to BD-ROM playback, the BDC-202 allows users to access and transfer A/V and data files rapidly to DVD and CD.

With up to 50GB of storage capacity, the Blu-ray Disc format allows for copious amounts of high definition video and audio content on a single disc, including advanced interactive features and extensive bonus materials.

The BDC-202 drive allows computer system builders to provide a cost effective playback solution for advanced Blu-ray content as well as DVD and CD recording and playback.

SATA or Serial ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) is the next generation drive interface, following the traditional Parallel ATA (PATA). For more information on SATA technology and the advantages that it offers, follow this link.

Please Note: This writer requires an available SATA connection.

Pioneer Drives (ALL)
I must say that Pioneer internal optical drives have to be the best value around, and for reliability up in the leagues with Plextor. We only use pioneer dries for our burning (ainly with Datawrite Titanium media), and we also only use pioneer drives in our built/upgraded systems. You simply won't find better for your money (unless you want lightscribe, which as far as we're concerned is a waste of time anyway :P )

Superb cheap Blu-ray playback.
Superb flawess playback all be it at only 720p
Tried Black Hawk Down and The Departed through cyberlink delux, both run fine.

My rig
Athlon 64 3500(2.2ghz)
2gig ram
Ati 2400 xt 256mb
Creative X-fi Audio extreme
Using Media portal with HD plugin.

Only negative is you need to source your own playback software cyberlink or windvd are available but are really expensive.

Wow! Cheap way to get High Def :-)
What can i say, i took a gamble on this...it was either this or a standalone unit. This was approx. £200 cheaper.
The drive is SATA which is great (don't 4get to buy a SATA power lead..Nudge Danny).
My only piece of advice: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A HDCP COMPATIBLE GFX CARD!!!
I didnt so had to buy one to make it work but wow! its great and a wise purchase :-)
