a 16 quid bracket? Hmmm...
I was looking around for a bracket to fit a 50" screen after replacing my 42" Samsung.
The Samsung bracket was a different beast altogether. A large backplate about 2 foot by 3 foot that screwed to the wall and 4 large screws with washers that went on the TV. This then dropped into four holes that were like keyhole style fittings on two large solid arms which could tilt.
All in all, the Samsung bracket was absolutely solid and could hold the unit without any worries.
I had been looking for a similar universal style bracket for this TV as I didn't want to ever need the bracket changed again (Samsung didn't fit the new TV).
Closest I had found was £30 from a local place that seemed very flimsy.
Everyone recommended the single bar type fitting where the bar gets fitted to the wall and the TV hung from that, average price was around 40 to 60.
Then I saw this one. Thought it was similar to the £40 ones from the description (Actually have seen it more expensive elsewhere) and thought that at £17 it was worth risking to see what it was like.
I was a little underwhelmed as it's a single bar screwed to the wall and two arms for the TV which have spacers on the bottom.
The instructions are worse than bad, following the instructions you'd use a 1/2" drill bit which should in fact be a 12MM and that makes the holes slightly too large! Recommend going smaller and 10MM is too small so try an 11.
I couldnt as I had fitted the rawplugs and the bolts kept spinning due to 12mm drill bit used. It did however, still appear solid but I wasn't chancing a 50" screen on that.
Used 6 of my previous bracket's frame fixings which are 9mm wide and very very long (made for hanging door frames) and it's on the wall solid!
It's very very low profile to the wall so if you have any wide fitting cables they may need replaced or shaped first during fitting. My HDMI cables have a large round section on the cable (I presume some form of surpressor for interference) and had to be slightly bent to fit them.
The bracket is of good construction. There are spacers, screws, washers and fittings for most if not all screens.
It's easy to fit as long as you have the right tools.
Mounting the TV is tricky but with help and care it's not really difficult.
For 16 quid the bracket is a great buy and I think two of my friends are thinking now of ordering the same for the screens they are about to buy next month.
I'll give it an 8 out of ten as 7 and below tends to discourage me from looking but it's only dropping marks due to lack of good instructions which lead to the problems I ended up facing.
