This 1GB SDMX1 MP3 player from Sandisk features a multi-line indigo backlit LCD display, built-in FM radio, a microphone for voice recording and can handle MP3, WMA and the protected WMA DRM files. Powered by a single AAA battery that gives around 15 hours of continuous playback.

I have had one of these players for months and have no complaints whatsoever. My other player is a 40Gb Creative, and I bought this for taking to the gym and carrying around in my pocket on the offchance of listening to one of the CDs I've recently ripped into Windows Media Player. First things first, the capacity at IGb is plenty to hold tens of albums. You can play tracks randomly or select the album you want. The small screen is large enough to see the details of the track you're playing or to select a track or album. You have some choice about what is displayed on screen and how quickly it scrolls. The little joystick works a treat and isn't as flimsy at it may at first appear, and the few buttons are fairly easy to familiarise yourself with to get the best out of the player. Sound quality is more than adequate, and easily comparable to many other pricier players - and as usual dependent upon the format you rip in. I use WMA Variable bit rate, or MP3 and every track has played perfectly. The only criticism of the player function is that random play is a little predictable - you'll always get tracks from the root of the memory fairly early on. Visually it's not the sexiest player, but who needs to see it? Headphones are OK, but you'll always hear more with decent aftermarket 'phones. I think it's solid value for money and it comes from a well known manufacturer. I was so happy I bought another Sansa for my son. It has also never once failed.
