With this caddy you can use one of your computer's existing USB ports to turn any CD/DVD drive or 3.5" IDE (PATA) hard drive into an external drive without having to open up your PC.

This unit has mountings for 5.25" (CD/DVD) drives or 3.5" hard drives to be installed inside. This means that you can buy a popular internal DVD writer and use this case to turn it into an external drive. It really is that simple! Installation of a drive into the external case takes only a couple of minutes.

Easy to assemble sliding design means less screws are required, while the built-in cooling fan helps to keep the installed hard drive cool to prevents overheating.

Backwards compatible with USB1.1 for connection to older machines.

Hello again, After a few more tests, I notice that the mentioned beaviour only happens with the LG H55L SecureRom drive. Conclusion only a few external box's are compatible the SecureRom Devices and this isn't one of them :/ Aparently one of the side effects is the low transfer rate too. Regards, Fernando.

Not quite as the Fire-wire/USB combo (not avialable anymore)
Hi there, I'm very unhappy with this product, their chip (IDE 2 USB) is limited to : Maximum Read Rate: 18.589 KB/s (13.4x) So their use for DVD-RW drives at 16x or 18x or even 20x is useless.. I tried several recorders and even harddisks, and always the same result. I bought then thinking they were as good as USB2/Firewire combo unit (the same looks but not avialable anymore), but after comparing then (their controller board aren't alike) I saw why they perform diferent.
