Firmware Upgrade
Hi Nathan, the firmware upgrade is the same version which I already had on the system, so the same problems apply, slow fast forward and rewind speed etc.

Here's hoping they release one which sorts out these problems soon

95% success
I applied it first thing so couldnt tell you what the device is like it without it. So far I have had a 95% success rate with all my divx and xvids. I have had the odd one crash out or just play audio but they really are in the minority and something I can live with for the price of the device!

If you really have problems you can reencode your files using - http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ - bit techie though and takes a while.

Firmware update
John, the updated firmware is still available from mt-electronics, they have just changed their link.

http://www.mt-electronics.com/drivers/SV_Cyclone_Firmware_Update_151008.zip

All the searches I have done suggest this is the latest update but not 100% as Sumvision website still do not provide this info! I have not yet applied this update so I would appreciate your feedback on how well it goes.

Firmware
Hi, I have just bought one of these and note all of the things about firmware. Yes, it is a tad basic and was wondering if anyone has found the latest Firmware upgrade?

The http://www.mt-electronics.com/drivers_firmware.asp link doesn't seem to work. So if Nathan or anyone has a link, then please could you post it?

Apart from that, it looks decent and does the job and obviously, the greatest thing is that it's 1tb!

No Problems! ... Update your Firmware!!
Ok I have had this player for over a month and its excellent! I have updated the firmware so all the below problems shouldnt be an issue. Every xVid and DIVx I have thrown at the player has worked. Going to buy another two for family for christmas!

Sync problems
Can't say I'm too impressed with this box, major sync issues halfway through a divx movie : pause - resync-back out of sync, pause etc. Stopping & restarting a movie is a nightmare thanks to the 4x search. Very few functions compared to my Aqua media player, and this was quite a bit more expensive. If the sync probs are not fixable it's going back. 4/10 cos it looks nice.

Just ordered!
Just ordered mine. Will provide a review in due course as when googling there is next to nothing on this player!

FYI - There appears to be a new update here dated 15/10/08 - http://www.mt-electronics.com/drivers_firmware.asp - anyone tried it???

No problems with 1TB HDD
No problems with 1TB HDD support. Drive works fine. Use the formatting tool supplied with the device first. Your choice NTFS or FAT, I have not concluded which is best yet. Inface both have pros and cons.

Found a Beta firmware update, althou it does not seem to have made too much difference. Avaailable here http://filebeam.com/c4ee609a55e55eefccba5b3ff471e5b7.

Sumvision Cyclone
as described in the other review, the physical design of the unit is very good (however the remote is low quality compared to the actual unit), and all looked ok when i put it together. I used an old drive (NTFS) and copied some files across, but when i tried using the device it just kept flashing back to the main menu when selecting movies. After re-reading the (brief) manual i discovered that you have to put the files into a directory ,once i did this i was able to access them ok.

I put 2 TV show episodes and 3 films onto the drive to test the box. one TV show plays out fine, the other bombs out at a different part each time, then seems to play a few seconds from each movie on the drive. of the 3 films, one played fine and the other two performed as above.

I also looked for a firmware update, some of the feature i consider are missing :-

a) FF at more than 4 speed
b) a way to jump to a specified time in the movie.
c) subtitle on/off

hopefully a reformat to FAT32 and a firmware update (when available) will lift this above the mundane

Excellant review bud, very accurate and descriptive. If you find a sollution to the file prefered directory structure you describe can you post on here, I too have the same issue I was searching for a firmware update, but was suprised when searching the Sumvisions support site the cyclone media player is not a listed device?? May be they are just slow in offering support..
