A NAS enclosure allows you to turn any SATA hard drive, old or new, into an external NAS drive, making data even easier to share on a network.

Just as a router allows you to share a single Internet connection without the need for any particular computer to be turned on, a NAS (Network Attached Storage) hard drive allows you to share a drive full of data without needing any particular computer to be turned on.

Very slow NAS
As a USB drive it works very well and quite fast but as a Network storage device its terrible, Pc only sees hard drive as 3.5 gb in size no matter which file system you format it to and the transfer speeds are too slow to use effectivly, 5gb takes 217 mins to write over network in XP (can only write 3.5gb in Vista even with NTFS file system). Also mine only has one USB socket not the two shown in the picture. If you're after a cheap SATA caddy buy it, but if you want a NAS caddy avoid it like the plague. I've tried it with a 80gb, 160gb and a 500gb HDD all with the same results. (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR)
