Settle for nothing less.
If you want your CD recordings to last, stick 'em on these. I have been using these for several years now (and watched them getting cheaper every year) and I have never had a "coaster", even at the faster recording speeds. Everything that I've recorded on these is still intact, unlike some cheaper - and some more expensive - brands that I've trusted in the past and which have since degraded irretrievably. Also, having a plain silver back means they're perfect for labels, or writing with a CD marker.

Superb
As far as I am concerned, Taiyo Yuden is the best media out there, for CD-R as well as DVD+-R, mainly because of the Taiyo Yuden dye. I use these CD-Rs to make backups to play in the car (I'd rather keep the originals in a safe place - to avoid scratching the discs, cracking the cases, damaging the covers etc.) and I haven't had a single skip yet. It goes without saying that I have burnt no coasters with Taiyo Yuden. Ever. My only problem with these discs is the surface - why does it need to be shiny?! The top surface smudges really easily! So I prefer to use the full-face silver printable discs (to write on with a CD-R pen). Audiophiles say that there is an audible difference between the audio burnt on different brands on CD-R when using expensive Hi-Fi equipment - personally I cannot tell the difference, but Taiyo Yuden is widely regarded as the best quality. If you are daunted by all the CD-Rs out there, and you want to stick to one brand, go with TY. Quite simply the best.

Excellent Media
TY I swear by them. These disc have never failed me. The only point I would make is as Unbranded, the surface of the disc is a little exposed, and I have had to reburn a few due to damage....although with due care this should not be a major problem. If you want your TY discs cheap, then you cant beat them, If you want a more robust disc, then better fork out for a branded disc.

Never judge a book...
In the past I bought discs based on brand but found that the quality varied, I've since learnt that what's written on the top of the disc says little about the underside and these unbranded CD-Rs are the best you can buy.

Taiyo Yuden Unbranded (48x) 80min CDR
Good dependable medium, reputed to one of the longest lasting. I have also used verbatim and TDR and Taiyo Yuden is at least as good (but hopefully has superlong lifespan). My cd writer is liteon by the way which is pretty compatible with most discs.
