We always recommend that customers keep the firmware on their DVD writers up to date. This is especially true in the case of high-speed media as most reported problems are due to out of date firmware. Click here for our guide to firmware upgrading.

Not Taiyo Yuden
I've left a rating score because this is compulsory (in middle, although tests are not conclusive on my burns). However the main point is to note that the majority of these reviews are for Taiyo Yuden. These are not - they are MCC. They may very well be very good, but they are not the same. Just be aware.
(Just to reiterate, TY scored 10/10, SVP - can you source these again please)

Discs on this page have changed from Taiyo to India made
This product page was originally for the Taiyo Yuden Verbatim discs so most of these reviews are for those.
Someone at SVP has changed this page to the Made in India discs. They should be on another product page and the Taiyo Yuden discs changed to out of stock and left on this page. Confusing botch.
I can only imagine how many people ordered these discs by mistake thinking they was getting Taiyo Yuden discs.
Incidentally, I've just ordered Taiyo Yuden discs and received these India made discs from SVP. I've not yet received my correct order that I was since promised.

Quality has not dropped - it has plunged!
These verbatim discs (and their 4x and 8x predecessors) were my disc of choice because of high compatibility with other machines and reliability. I would now recommend people NOT to buy verbatim - a large number of discs in the latest batch will not read in any of my DVD recorders or they fail after around 7% of a computer burn. From being the best - Verbatim are now the worst discs I have bought in recent times. A disgrace!

Have you checked to make sure that your burner is using the latest firmware? Please contact sales@svp.co.uk and we will arrange a replacement / refund. Verbatim are considered to be one of the best quality discs we sell and never normally have problems with them.

Quality has dropped
These are not as good as they once were. Since the packaging changed - orange and blue at time of writing - the quality has dropped. Longer burn times, longer for the disc to be recognised and the odd coaster. Still better than most but would be perfect if they stuck with the original.

Still going strong
I'm awaiting my 5th order for the 50 spindle pack, and got to say I had no problems so far. I keep the burning speed to 8x and that seems to be the recommended burning speed elsewhere on the net.

Excellent
Have had a few spindles of these discs now and had no problems at all. Highly recommended.
Burning them with my Pioneer DVDR 110D with 1.41 Firmware as well as with different laptops.

New design and packaging isn't good.
I've burnt over 800 of these discs, all look the same and all have been labelled at the top in the blank space with black marker. Not any more though, now they've changed the design and put a big logo there. They are also no longer putting in the sponge washer to stop the discs from rattling about. There is now 1cm of movement in every spindle, not good when they get posted and knocked about. What were they thinking, marketing team with too much free time on their hands.

Not what I'd expect from Verbatim or TY
I normally buy the 'Silver Top' version of this disk and haven't had any problems with those, but as they were out of stock, I thought I'd get these instead, thinking that they'd be just as good.
I purchased 200 of them and got 4 x 50 spindle tubs.
I've tried burning 4 DVDs from the first spindle and one from the second and all have failed in Nero with 'Power Calibration Error'.
I'm using a Plextor PX-716A with the latest firmware (1.11) and have tried burning at various speeds down to 4x with no successes.
I've also disabled IMAPI the service as suggested to see if this helped, but it hasn't.
I've since tried the DVDs in a HDD/DVD recorder (Pioneer LX70D) and they seem Ok there (or one of the failed PC burn disks worked in the recorder) and I've also used an old PC burner (Sony DW-D18A) and they seem fine here, although this is only capable of 4x

Verbatim Discs
I've been buying these discs in bundles of 50 for some time now and no failures. Highly recommended.
